We Create Without Compromise
“Contemporary, Responsible, Design #fashionourfuture”
OUR MISSION
Clothes that make you feel incredible don’t have to cost the earth. At Mother of Pearl, we believe in delivering beautiful products without compromising on integrity, ethics or responsibility.
OUR JOURNEY
We’ve spent the last 5 years digging deep into every aspect of the business, gathering the knowledge to be able to make informed decisions on how to produce clothes in the most responsible way possible.Like any excavation, the more you dig, the more you uncover. We can’t escape the fact that producing anything will have an impact on the planet; landfills are overflowing, oceans are drowning in billions of microfibres and ancient forests are being destroyed on a daily basis. But as a brand, we have a part to play in securing a future for our planet and minimising the consequences of our actions.
That’s why Amy Powney, our Creative Director, has been on a journey to re-learn her 15 year career in fashion and incorporate sustainability at the core of every design, decision and direction. Sustainability has been a life-long passion for Amy. After she won the BFC/Vogue Designer Fashion Fund prize, she set off on a journey to educate her team and ensure sustainability was considered at the forefront of every decision. She has since become an advocate for sustainability, looking at every aspect with 360 degree vision and, as a result, cemented MOP’s place as the UK’s most sustainable and responsible contemporary brand.
Amy says: ‘’We completely changed our brand direction back in 2018 to put people and planet at the forefront of every choice made. Since then, our work hasn’t stopped. We continuously analyse our procedures to ensure we are at the helm of the sustainable fashion world; when we know we could be doing something better, we react with flexibility to change the way we are working until we’re certain we’re making the best and most informed choices. We are proactive and dedicated to this journey and will never stop researching and learning. Sustainability isn’t a one dimensional issue that can be solved by opting for a fabric with green credentials; the final fabric is just the tip of the iceberg and what’s looming underneath is rarely considered or examined. Supply chains are not straightforward and social, environmental and political factors must be taken into account when looking at manufacturing with any country. A basic knowledge of each of these areas is imperative across all the countries your supply chain spans. It is our responsibility to do our due diligence and keep up with what is going on in the world.”

OUR COMMITMENTS
We are fully committed to transparency, giving you access to the full story behind our products. Our online filter tags each garment with its sustainable attributes, and shows you what we have managed to achieve for each individual piece. When you shop with MOP you can make your choice wisely – you’ll know exactly what you’re spending your money on including where the piece has come from and how it was made. However, our commitment to sustainability doesn’t start and end with our supply chain. Our London offices run on green energy. We’ve made an effort to reduce our plastic waste by moving to compostable packaging made from plant-based materials and we are a ‘plastic bottle free’ studio. We’ve even tried to better our toilet paper using ‘Who Gives A Crap’ – a brand that donates 50% of their profits to help build toilets and improve sanitation in the developing world.”
